These photographs are related to field visit to Poultry farm located at Garudapuram village on 15th December 2022. Nearly 30 students joined in this programme.

Poultry farm name: Sri Gurukrupa Poultry farm

In this Sri Gurukrupa Poultry farm nearly 50000 broilers are reared in six sheds. Poultry farmer by name G.Somasekhar has given very valuable inputs regrading the management of poultry birds with special reference to the broilers. The principles of poultry farming mentioned by him are documented below.

- 50000 broilers are reared in 6 sheds. The housing system in this poultry is deep litter system. Rice husk is used as litter. This litter spread in a single shed is sold after use at the end and it yields Rs 16000/- per shed. This is enough to meet electricity and other allied expenditure. This litter is useful as manure in agriculture and hence it has much demand. As this litter is filled the droppings of birds that contain uric acid, it serves as a very rich source of nitrogen. Raking is done to litter with raking machine. Litter raking reduces wetness.

- Mortality of the shed accounts to 10%. If the mortality is reduced to 2-4%, the poultry farmer gets maximum benefit.

- Broilers can be sent to market after 45 days. Many broilers are sold on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. In Kartheek, Magh and Shravana months, there will be less demand for this broilers.

- In this poultry farm, the feed contains the following ingredients

  •                 700 kg maize
  •                 250 kg soya bean. This is the richest source of proteins
  •                 75 kg concentrate
  •                 2 kg engrow. It is a growth promoter used in poultry
  •                 1 kg Mycotoxin binder
  •                  1 kg tylosin
Feed can be given in the form of mash or pellets. Maize corn or soya bean are converted into either mash or pellets in the machine by using different sieves. Pellet feed is costlier. Machine that converts the feed into either mash or pellets has lifter, cutter, mixer and storage tank. When the feed is changed, mortality increases.
- Soya mash is imported from Sangli, Maharashtra to this farm.
- Cobb breed does not require any oil in the feed.
- Mortality is more from day 1- 10
- Broilers in this farm are reared from day 1- 45
   Feed details
1st day: Glucose water or water mixed with jaggery is given as these chicks are under stress as they are brought to the poultry from hatcheries. Glucose water reduces travel stress.
2nd day: Vimeral is given. It is an effective vitamin and anti stress supplement. Along with this, 1/2 liter of cephalexin antibiotic is administered for 7000 birds.
3rd day: Anabolite is given as supplement. This is a gluconeogenic precursor.
6th day: normal water is given. Water is supplied in nipple drinkers.
7th day: Occulonasal  drops are given after mixing them either in water or in milk.
Calgophos is given as mineral supplement to the chicks in which the legs are week.
17th day: Feed should be changed. This may cause diarrhea
30-45 days: Brotone liver tonic is given.
In broiler, growth is faster after 35 days.
Feed ration
Pre starter mash : 1-18 days
Starter mash       : 18-28 days
Finish mash        : 28-45 days
